Alt vs. Kölsch

On Thursday, May 25th and Friday, May 26th (12pm-late), we are hosting our first traditional Alt/Kölsch service to accompany the release of two companion beers: Gokurosama Kölsch-Style Ale and Oberkassel Altbier.

Inspired by brauhäus service in Cologne, our köbes (servers) will be pouring both beers in 200mL stanges and replenishing your glass without needing to order until you've completed your session. Many moons ago, back at Dieu du Ciel, our founder and head brewer Luc was set to import Uerige, Früh, and other classics into Quebec for a similar face-off event but last minute, unforseen red tape got in the way. Although other fantastic producers have since thrown similar events of their own, the timing felt right to finally try our hand at this unparalleled cultural beer experience.

Wvrst will be in the kitchen cooking up delicious German-Inspired dishes and cans will be available to purchase at our retail shop and online store.

Toronto, it's time for you to decide: Alt or Kölsch?

Prost!

Godspeed x Michael Hancock Arbeit Release

On Sunday, March 12th we're throwing a Bavarian brunch release party to celebrate the release of TWO collaboration beers we with the legendary Michael Hancock.

Arbeit Hefeweizen (5.2%) and Arbeit Dunkelweizen (5.0%) will be pouring on draft, along with some other special German import beers we hold near and dear. Our friends at WVRST are serving up traditional Bavarian breakfast!

Michael's storied brewing career takes root back in 1989 at Denison's Brewing Company, where he brewed Bavarian-style beers with class and distinction. His wheat beer in particular became world-renowned for its incredible flavour and fidelity to tradition. Michael then went on to help establish Sidelaunch, who continue to brew his prized recipes to this day.

Arbeit means "work" in German and after 40 years of brewing and engineering, no one encapsulates the word more than our friend and collaborator. Michael Hancock will be onsite for the release party so come help us raise a glass to these new creations!

Prost!

Péché Day

Mark your calendars. Saturday, February 18th the world celebrates Péché Day - including us, right here at Godspeed.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of Péché Mortel Imperial Coffee Stout so we're pulling out all the stops. A few weeks ago, Dieu du Ciel co-founder and Brewmaster Jean-François Gravel traveled to Toronto to brew a batch of Péché Mortel using their original recipe and ingredients. It marks the first time the beer's ever been brewed outside of Dieu du ciel's four walls.

Next month, we'll tap the following variants:

Péché Latte – Imperial Milk coffee stout – 9.5%

Péché Mortel Special Edition – Imperial coffee stout brewed with Colombian biological coffee cultivated in  the mountains of Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta (roaster: Mystique Café)- 9.5%

Péché Mortel Bourbon 2022 – Bourbon barrel aged Imperial coffee stout – 9.5%

Péché Mortel Mexican Stout – Imperial coffee stout. Spices and peppers – 9.5%

Péché Mortel – Imperial Coffee Stout – 9.5%

Péché Mortel** – Imperial Coffee Stout – 9.5% (**Brewed at Godspeed)

+ other delicious surprises.

Sklepník Release Party

Sklepník Release Party

After years of planning, dreaming, and seven anxious weeks of patience and care, Sklepník Plzen-Style Pale Lager is finally ready. On Friday we're hosting a release party to celebrate our first batch of Sklepník conditioned in pitch-lined 40hL barrels crafted for us by the talented barrel-makers at Pilsner Urquell. Cans of our pitch-lined Sklepník will also launch with a brand new look.

Starting at 12pm, we'll be tapping "new" Sklepník with a version of the same beer conditioned completely in stainless tanks so you can try both side-by-side. Pilsner Urquell will be on our guest tap for good measure!

For those unfamiliar with how we got here, a number of years ago we brewed a beer inspired by the unfiltered original Pilsner we tasted in Pilsner Urquell's cellars. Sklepník was that beer. Fast-forward to October, 2021 when our Brewmaster Luc was invited to work with and learn from the coopers at Pilsner Urquell, who agreed to make Godspeed two 40hL barrels - the very same ones used in the cellars where Pilsner was first conceived in 1842.

These barrels were designed to condition beer under pressure. The staves are thicker than your traditional wine barrel and the inside is coated with pitch, which prevents the beer from coming into contact with the wood. The resulting pale lager is as opulent as it is easy-drinking. It's boldly hopped and unfiltered. Like previous iterations, Sklepník undergoes a double decoction mash process and is naturally carbonated. Bottom line: it's our most ambitious pale lager to date and we can't wait to share it with you!

WVRST will be doing a pop-up in our kitchen from 12pm-11pm (Friday & Saturday)
